Big Sur Jade Natural Polish "Vulcan Cigar" Pendant (Stone 3 1/2" x 1 1/4")
$125.00
Unlike other jade deposits of the world, Big Sur Jade is collected, in small quantities on the shoreline and under the sea in, often, challenging winter conditions. Landslides, large waves, and steep slopes are just a few of the hazards that make it challenging to collect. This piece was collected in the legal collection areas of Big Sur by the Artistan, Sherry Brajcich, in 2024.
"Vulcan" jade is a term attributed to those pieces which have undergone the geological process of metamorphosis. This beautiful green piece is perfectly framed by hints of orange, which come from exposure to iron in from its long history earthly encapsulation. It is also naturally polished by the elements -- wind, sand, and water of the sea -- to create its sculptural appearance. These two processes are highly desirable to some Big Sur Jade Collectors.
The pendant is fastened by a custom-made bead fashioned from ethically culled manzanita wood. Effort was made to retain its little burl and some of its bark for more character. The pendant is strung on a nylon cord and is adjustable. This pendant is durable, and a little moisture will not harm it. If ever needed, refreshment of the bead seal and cord is easily performed upon request.
Because this is a naturally polished pendant, applying a bit of natural oil, such as mineral, almond, or avocado is recommended to help keep the jade sealed. Simply rub a little onto the surface, while avoiding the cord, as needed, usually every six to twelve months, and place it in the sun to soak in. This maintenance will keep your naturally polished jade looking beautiful!
